OPENING DAY SEPTEMBER 10th

Greetings Satowians!

SATOW TRACK/HOBBY PARK OPENING DAY

Well the day has come. As many of you already know, the basic track layout has been completed. We plan to have an opening day festival. This will be a great opportunity to meet your fellow R/C racers in the area. We hope to get together and talk about the future of SATOW-RC.com, establish future meet-up, events and races. The event will be held;

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 10TH from 11-2

FOOD AND FUN!

We will tear up our new track, and celebrate R/C racing. We plan to have hot dogs and beverages. If you plan to attend and can help us with refreshments please email me.

admin@satow-rc.com. We would also like to get an informal head count for food and drinks. If you will definitely attend, please email us. If you’re not sure, no problem, come if you can, we should have plenty for all.

LOCAL HOBBY STORES!

We also hope to have several of the local hobby stores on hand to demonstrate the newest products and services they offer. Please contact me if your hobby store would like to be involved. This is a great chance to meet the hobbyists in the area and show your new products. We can have a demo on site for the newest R/C planes, cars, and trucks.

RACING

As of now we do not have any plans for an official race. We will have informal races of course. Should anyone want to spearhead official racing, please contact me ahead of time to schedule this event.

Summer is in full swing and so is SATOW-RC and the Renovations at Hobby Park. The site has been cleared an the “general” outlay is in place.

Being the founder of Satow and having a family is keeping me quite busy this summer, so renovations are going a bit slower than I had hoped, however we are almost there!!!!

Donate Your Time

Now is the time when we need your help!  This Saturday 07/02 at 10:00am we will need some help moving some earth. This will not be glamorous work. We willl need strong backs, shovels, rakes and wheel barrows to be brought to the site. We have to move some dirt off the grass to the edges of the track, and dig a few drain channels for rain runoff. We will only work for a few hours, perhaps until 12:00 or 1:00. If you know you be able to help, email me and let me know if you can bring any equipment. Even if you cannot work just  stop by and say hello! It’s time that our community started to meet up so we can plan furture events.

SATOW on the MOVE! Busy week!

Satow has been very busy this week . After having minor surgery, and being off my feet for a few days , I got in gear and made some things happen. Here’s what was done this week.

Most importantly, We broke ground on the site at Hobby Park. Well, who am I kidding, we ripped the ground to pieces, smashed them up, rolled them over each other, plied em high and got the new track off to a great start. With help from Hauser Rental, who really came through for us, we got a large tractor with a pull behind earth scraper. This cleared the site over about a 4 hour span, and also allowed us to pile some dirt areas up for the jumps and bumps. Right now the site is very dusty and need a good rain before we continue. So if you visitthe site do not disturb the mounds until we have a chance to form them better. Upcoming lists will be posted for volunteer help very soon, likely in the end of June so keep you calenders clear.

Yeah and we had to run a few laps on that virgin soil!

We have also added forum space for this club, as well as for all the local R/C shops in the area. Hopefully they will take advantage of this free space to help everyone with new products and specials.

We also met on Saturday with Hobby Park’s Radio Control Aircraft Club, which was having a Fly in and contests. These guys are great!. This club has been maintaining the air strip for a long time. They are looking for a new home for their web presence and it looks like SATOW will be that home. Meeting are held 7:30 on the 2nd Monday every month at George Taylor Recreation center  on Clemmonsville Rd. Look to the forum for more information.  Check out some of the pics from Gold ball Bombing.

Thats all for this week. Be on the lookout for the volunteer sign up sheet in the coming weeks. Keep asking all friends and family for donations!

Thanks!

SATOW-RC on FOX8 NEWS

Fox8 News reporter Brent Campell was kind enough to visit with SATOW-RC and discuss the Restoration of Hobby Park. We spent about an hour discussing the project and RC in general. FOX8 NEWS featured the story tonight and posted a story on the web site. We spoke about or desire to see this project through and our continued need of support from the members of the community. Our wish list still has items available for your donation. Thanks to Brent for the exposure!

Read the story here.

More good news today!

Hauser Rentals has donated a Skidsteer so we can clear the site! Please consider using them for your next party or rental equipment needs! Supporting the businesses that support us is the best way to show your appriciation! THANK YOU DENNIS!

Still MORE good news!

Dick Butler over at Winston Parks and Recreation called to let us know we have been approved to bring in the equipment June 4th. He also will provide SATOW with a truckload of fill dirt to get the project off to a great start! THANKS DICK!

So today we made great strides in moving toward completion of the Hobby Park restoration. Thank you to everyone who has contacted us and offered financial , time or resource support! We will be in touch very soon, we will need your strong backs soon!

Hobby Park Restoration Phase 1

Phase one of the restoration of Hobby Park is underway. We are currently seeking the required permits from parks and recreation to bring an earth mover to the site. The site has become heavily overgrown and it will be much easier to clear it using an earth mover rather than by hand.

The earth mover costs are the most expensive for this project. Esitmates for the equipment rentals are from 250-400 dollars. If you have access to a CAT, Bulldozer, tractor, or any other equipment that might help in this task please contact me as soon as possible at admin@satow-rc.com.

Also there is a heavy infestation of Miner Bees at the site. The are normally docile and do not sting, but BE CAREFUL if you visit. They are very active this time of year. They will become more dormant towards the end of this month.

We are also attempting to cordinate the deliver of a large amount of fill dirt with the date of the arrival of the earth mover. This is no small task, so once again, comb your contacts for anyone who might be able to donate fill dirt (clay or thich loam) to the site. We are getting every close to the project getting underway in earnest so sow your support by helping out or donating a small amount (5-10 dollars helps a great deal!) Look at the donation as a down payment on a new track for your community!

SATOW DONATIONS
Welcome to the Satow Newsletter!

We have been receiving alot of questions about where the restoration of Hobby Park’s Dirt tack stands. As of now, we have begun preliminary work on the site. We are taking this month to solicit donations from community leader, businesses and members to help defray some of the cost. Currently the project costs are estimated between 500.-1000 dollars. So we are asking everyone who has pledges support to ask for donations from any source they can.

SATOW is committed to finishing this project before Fall 2011, but the project will go much fatser if we have fund to draw on. So I am asking for everyone to work with their contact lists , and make to case to your business associates, family and friends to donate however much they can afford. Five Dollars can go a long way if we get enough donations.

Donations can be made though the web site at Http://www.satow-rc.com

Or feel free to use this letter I am sending out to businesses in the area.

Together we can make this happen, thank you for all the support and enthusiasm you have shown!
